Thermal Storage
Thermal energy storage (TES) has become a critical aspect of any concentrating solar power (CSP) system deployed today.
For small grids such as those found in Hawaii, renewable energy generators such as wind and photovoltaic can hammer a grid with intermittancy and unreliability. KSP focused on this problem and invented novel thermal energy storage system that provides solar power during cloudy periods and at night! This design is operating in our Holaniku at Keahole Point project giving us the ability to buffer against clouds and generate energy into the evening, long after the sun has set.
